Many people think God is dead, or He is not interested in helping people, but let me say that He still cares for you! A lady testified at church last night and told us that after we all prayed for her mother last week she had a miracle. She had tests done that revealed an aortic aneurism. When she went to Hartford Hospital to have surgery the doctor told her he couldn't understand it but she is fine! She needed no surgery and he didn't need to see her for another 6 months! I, too, received prayer Sunday night because after Sunday morning meeting as I was going upstairs to my office to put things way I heard a loud "pop" in my knee and I almost fell. I couldn't put any weight on that leg (I thought I would have to have surgery and get a chair lift for my stairs, etc., etc,). But today I am putting full weight on that leg, I walked a couple of miles today and only feel a little pinch. I am believing God for a complete recovery, but I just want to thank God for His mercy! Several other answers to prayer have also come in. Yes, God is still answering prayer and He is waiting for you to seek Him. In that day you seek Him with all your heart, the Bible says you shall be found of Him! May God bless you.
Jesus Christ is very wise. He told us in His Word what we should be considering or thinking about. Many times we think about past mistakes, short-comings, how we're perceived by others, and on and on. But He told His disciples to think on certain things. Luke 12:27 He says, "Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." This whole chapter is good to read over. People often desire to please others and mask their failures through the things they wear and many worldly things. But the lily He is referring to is just a common ground cover. When it flowers the aroma fills the air. It has a small bud but it has a beautiful fragrance. It doesn't try to be fancy: "it is what it is," as the saying goes. The Bible tells us the Lord feeds among the lilies. He likes common things. Come to Him today just as you are: He will in no wise cast you out! May God bless you.
Nehemiah 4:6 tells us that he gathered the people to work on the walls of Jerusalem. But there were problems and hindrances, including from those who should be there to help! But the job was being done because the people had a mind to work. These workers had understanding of what they were doing and they were courageous. It meant their home, their future, their hopes, and dreams. One person could not build the wall alone: they all had to have one mind and one heart. So it is with a church. Every member of a church should strive to get on the same page so they can build the kingdom of God in that assembly together. Everyone is important. Today we build the assembly by inviting people to come hear the Word of God. We should never be afraid of people's lives changing. Nehemiah called it "building the wall." Let me encourage you to pick up a trowel and help your church build! May God bless you.
At church tonight we heard a wonderful message about Jesus being the express image of God. Before God ever declared the Son of God with power, He considered everything, including you and me! He made a provision for each of us so we may live overcoming lives. As a matter of fact, the Scripture goes on to say He upholds all things with the "Word of His power." He doesn't just have all this explosive power that's not directed: He directs His power to save us from our sins, heal us when we're sick, and produce His righteousness in us and through us by His word. His Word is sharp, it's powerful, and it changes us into His image! I'm looking for changes in some areas of my life that can only happen with the help of His power. I pray the Lord will make those changes we all need in our lives for His honor and glory! May God bless you.
There is a truth in the Bible that has been going over and over in my heart for quite some time, and that is that Jesus Christ is all-sufficient for not only my eternal salvation but for my daily walk with Him as well. There are not enough good things I can do to merit eternal life. Only Jesus Christ can bring me into the fullness of life. Paul said, "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;" (2 Corinthians 3:5). There was a young Christian who came to church for a long time but then suddenly stopped coming. We tried to call and write and get in contact, but to no avail. Recently, we were able to speak with them! They told us they did something that made them ashamed to come back. They went into a depression and felt empty and lifeless. But thanks be to God, Jesus is a restorer of broken hearts! We ministered to this person and contact has been restored! They thought we would think less of them for this problem, but actually it is quite contrary: we love them more! Why? Because we know none of us can be perfect on our own. Only Jesus Christ can make us into the people we need to be. Only Jesus can cleanse us form all sins. Yes, he is sufficient for every need! Bring your heart to Him today and let Him change you into His image. If you do you will find that your "sufficiency is of God." May God bless you.
We had a Men's Fellowship Breakfast today. Our friend, Rev. John Lautenbach from Manchester, was our guest speaker. He spoke about never giving up, no matter what the struggle. It was an encouraging message and strength! He said Jesus had a choice: to live, but all those around Him would die, or to give His life and die, but rescuing everyone who would call on His name to be saved. In that moment of pressure and decision He made His choice. Today we are saved because of His choice!
We also had a visit from Rep. Jay Chase. He spoke from his heart about the many issues Connecticut is facing. We were so glad he came! Rev. Lautenbach's message was timely for all of us as we reach out to others in whatever capacity we work. Let me encourage you today: don't give up! The sacrifices you make may be the reason others will live today and tomorrow! May God bless you.
There is nothing as wonderful as hearing these words from the Lord! If you know the Lord is with you, I mean really know He's there, you can face anything in life. There are no problems too great, there are no enemies to your mind and soul that will defeat you, and even though troubles swirl all around you, there is a peace that passes all understanding! Years ago I was talking to my Aunt Shirley. She had many medical issues, but I have never met anyone with a greater attitude than she. I would call thinking I would encourage her and brighten her day, but after a few minutes I found myself laughing and totally enjoying her stories! But one day she told me that more than once she felt death come into her room when she was very sick. It's presence was cold and clammy and she could feel it. But then another presence came into her room! She told me Jesus Christ came into her room and death immediately fled His presence! Life was restored to her and she was able to live many years after these experiences. I believed her then and I certainly believe her now: that if Jesus said, "Behold, I am with thee.." I need not doubt or be fearful, for death is still swallowed up in His life! As a matter of fact, he said in Genesis 28:15, "And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of." May God bless you.
Tonight at church my wife was ministering and she illustrated the verse of Scripture in Psalm 46:10 which says, "Be still, and know that I am God..." One day she was going to the store with a friend. They were on Rte 44 in Avon when they slowed down to see a pool of water by the side of the road where turtles were sunning themselves. They pulled over to look and spotted a deer. They got out of the car and followed it down the path for a while. Then, all of a sudden, the deer stepped off the path a few feet and they lost sight of it...until it moved again! God camouflaged it so well that as long as it was still they couldn't see it. She was saying that as long as you are still, trusting and believing God is your source, your provider, your everything, the enemy of your soul will never be able to see you. The Lord will hide you in His presence, His camouflage! "Be still, and know that I am God..." May God bless you.
James 3 describes the wisdom that comes from God to those who ask Him. He said, "But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." There is no water purer than a flowing stream. It has a destination and brings forth life wherever it goes. So it is with God's wisdom. It ever flows from His heart to humanity. Only those who stoop down by it's banks will taste of its pureness and be refreshed by its goodness. His wisdom brings peace to troubled minds and fearful hearts. His wisdom will deal gently towards you But one other thing about the Lord is that He is easy to be intreated. In other words, He is easy to deal with. There are people who have answers for us but they can be very difficult to deal with! But not so with the Lord. Even if He says, 'No," to our petitions, he says, "Yes," to us! I always have the feeling that the Lord has my best interests at heart when I pray. He has a better way for me when I pray and ask for His help. Let me encourage you to seek Him today: He will hear your earnest prayers and His wisdom will flow to you as a stream! May God bless you.
We read in Luke 5:17 that the power of the Lord was present to heal them. I can say that is what happened today at church! Before the morning service started I was in my office when my wife asked me to come down because one of the ladies in church was in distress. She was having difficulty breathing and was asking for prayer. The moment we prayed for her the power of the Lord was present and healed her! Tears of thankfulness streamed down her cheeks as she praised the Lord for healing her. She said later the Lord took whatever it was completely away!
After church we went to a local convalescent home and sang to the people through the halls, stopping in the rooms and ministering to the people. We prayed for a lady there and she was thankful for that.
Then later, after choir practice, we heard a wonderful message about being a good soldier of Jesus Christ. At the altar call a woman came who had a lot of pain in her arm. She received prayer and the Lord took away all of the pain! She said her arm felt better than ever! She also said she thanks God she found our church because God is fixing things in her life really quickly. Yes, the power of God is still the same today! May God bless you.
